Structured Family Caregiving

If you’re already caring for a family member at home, you may qualify for a Medicaid-funded program that provides financial support, training, and ongoing help.
Are you assisting with meals, medications, bathing, or making sure they stay safe throughout the day?

What is Structured Family Caregiving?
Structured Family Caregiving (SFC) is a program in Indiana that allows a family member or trusted caregiver to provide full-time, live-in care and receive financial support for it.
Instead of placing your loved one in a facility, this program helps them stay safely at home, where they’re most comfortable, while giving you the financial support you need to make it possible.

What's Included

SFC allows family members and other live -in caregivers to be paid for the daily care they provide.

Caregivers may be related or non-family, but must live in the same household as the individual receiving care.

Structured family caregivers are expected to assist with both Attendant Care (ATTC) and Homemaker (HMK) services, just as an outside caregiver would.

Caregivers are paid a daily rate, seven days per week.

Pay is not based on hours worked, but on a daily stipend determined by the level of care.

Do You Qualify?

You or your loved one may qualify if:

  • They need help with daily activities like bathing, dressing, or mobility
  • They live with you (or can safely live with you)
  • They have or may qualify for Medicaid
  • They would otherwise need a higher level of care
